Global Zero U.S. Nuclear Policy Commission Report

Modernizing U.S. Nuclear Strategy, Force Structure and Posture
May 2012

Last year, the Global Zero U.S. Nuclear Policy Commission, chaired by former Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General (Ret.) James E. Cartwright, issued this report calling for the U.S. and Russia to reduce their nuclear arsenals by 80% to a total of 900 nuclear weapons each.  It is felt that this bold step would pave the way to bringing other nuclear weapons countries into the first multilateral nuclear arms negotiations in history.

The report has since received prominent coverage in the media such as the Financial Times, and The New York Times endorsed Global Zero's call to reduce the U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals shortly after its release.
