100 states have now signed, ratified, or acceded to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)

We are pleased to share this news from the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN):

"Tonga has just acceded to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

With this accession, it means there are now:

75 states parties, plus an additional 25 signatories.

Or, 100 states in total that have either signed, ratified, or acceded to the TPNW, and made a legal commitment to end nuclear weapons once and for all.

This is a significant commitment to multilateralism from countries that recognise how the continued existence of nuclear weapons puts all populations at risk - and that are working towards the total elimination of such inhumane and indiscriminate weapons.

At a time when some want us to believe that there is no hope in the power of international law, these countries are showing that cooperation and diplomacy remain the most sustainable path to security."
