Second Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons

Dr. Jennifer Allen Simons, President of The Simons Foundation, and Senior Fellow, Amb. (Ret'd) Paul Meyer, have both been invited as academics from Simon Fraser University to participate in the Second Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons being held in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico on February 13 and 14, 2014.  Dr. Simons will also represent The Simons Foundation at this important event.

The humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons detonations, accidental or deliberate, is a fundamental and international concern that is integral to all deliberations on nuclear disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation. The Government of Mexico is hosting the Second Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons to broaden discussion on the global and long-term humanitarian consequences of a nuclear detonation which were raised during the March 2013 Conference in Oslo, Norway. Governments, international organizations and civil society will participate in the Conference, as well as academics, military experts, and specialists in public health, humanitarian assistance, environmental issues, and civilian protection.
