The second Advancing Disarmament in a New Age of Insecurity workshop was held in Vienna, Austria on September 21 and 22, 2026. The event brought international scholars and activists together to address the growing dangers of nuclear escalation and make the case for active disarmament as a response—not through increased militarization, but by building arguments and strategies for peace. It focused on the role of higher education institutions in advancing disarmament education and exploring effective ways to advocate for change.

On September 23, 2026, Dr. Megan MacKenzie, Professor and Simons Chair in Peace, Disarmament and Human Security at the School for International Studies, Simon Fraser University, spoke at the "Networks for Change: Disarmament Education in Practice" edition of the Vienna Conversation Series convened by the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Vienna.
