The Simons Foundation Canada's "Military Footprints in the Arctic" Report

This report by Ernie Regehr, O.C., Senior Fellow in Arctic Security and Defence at The Simons Foundation Canada, and Kelsey Gallagher, a Researcher with Project Ploughshares, identifies 69 continuously staffed Arctic military sites in the five states with Arctic Ocean coastlines and discusses the challenges of reducing strategic tensions and recovering diplomacy. 

 

 

"Military Footprints in the Arctic" has been referenced as a source for information on military sites in the Arctic region by several publications including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and the Arctic Yearbook 2025.  Most recently, the report was used to help inform this new video: "The New Arctic Alliance Explained" by TLDR News EU.
