Space Security 2016 - Sustaining the Momentum: the Current Status of Space Security

In 2002, The Simons Foundation and Project Ploughshares, in partnership with Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada), initiated what has become the Outer Space Security Conference Series organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.  The Simons Foundation continues to partner with UNIDIR and sponsor the Outer Space Security Conferences which are held to inform the UN Conference on Disarmament on the issue of space security, the peaceful uses of outer space and the prevention of an arms race in outer space.

Space Security 2016 - Sustaining the Momentum: the Current Status of Space Security was held on April 28-29, 2016 and focussed on the current status of issues and processes critical to maintaining space as a peaceful domain.

The 2016 conference was organized by UNIDIR in partnership with Secure World Foundation and The Simons Foundation, and with support from UNIDIR's core funders and dedicated project funding from the Governments of the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation and the United States of America, Secure World Foundation and The Simons Foundation.
