"Advancing Disarmament in a New Age of Insecurity" Workshop

The "Advancing Disarmament in a New Age of Insecurity" workshop was held in Vancouver on April 11-12, 2025 and brought together scholars and activists from around the world to address the growing dangers of nuclear escalation and make the case for active disarmament as a response—not through increased militarization, but by building arguments and strategies for peace. It focused on the role of higher education institutions in advancing disarmament education and exploring effective ways to advocate for change.

The program was hosted by The Simons Foundation Canada and co-convened by the Simons Chair in International Law and Human Security at the Simon Fraser University School for International Studies, and the Simons Chair in Disarmament, Human and Global Security in Disarmament, Global and Human Security at the University of British Columbia School for Public Policy and Global Affairs.
